Frequently Asked Questions

How much is the initial conversation?The first 20 minute meeting with Dr. Thompson is free! She wants to meet you and get to know your challenges; you decide on the next steps together!

How long should I expect the initial conversation to last?Expect the consultation to last for 20 minutes by phone or HIPAA compliant Zoom. We will get to know each other and decide the best way for MIH to work with you.

Does your office take insurance for Functional Medicine services?We do not accept insurance or Medicare for our consulting services.

What should I expect at the initial consultation?At your initial consultation, you will explore your health biography with Dr. Thompson. We will discover a pathway to your wellness, determine first steps, and start to develop the plan for your wellness.

Should I bring anything with me to the consultation?We ask that you bring any pertinent medical records, supplements, medication and lab test results with you, along with all of your questions, goals and dreams.

Does your office offer single lab tests or a-la-carte testing?We do not offer a-la-carte testing since this goes against the paradigm of functional medicine. If we are going to address the root cause of your health issues, we will need to take a more comprehensive approach. We only work with patients on a case management basis in one of our programs.

Is my lab testing covered by health insurance?Functional lab testing is usually partially covered by insurance, but you will need to pay for it up front. The Laboratories can give you additional information on testing and working with your insurance before testing. You can also use your HSA funds for all of these tests.

What forms of payment do you accept?We accept cash, check, or credit cards.

Can I use my HSA or FSA account?Yes. Please check with your HR department to be sure.

What are your office hours?Our office hours are Monday to Friday 8 AM – 7 PM EST, just not everyday. We work on an appointment-only basis, but create space for all of our patients to meet their needs and will support you on weekends, too. Just let us know what you need and we will work out the hours.

Do I still need a primary care physician?Yes. We do not provide acute care services and we do not replace the services that your current medical team provides. We provide a stand-alone service.

Will I see other practitioners?Yes, you will work with a team of experts to help you accomplish your health goals. These may include nutritionist/lifestyle coach.

Does your office accept patients that live in other cities/countries?Yes, we work with patients who can meet us for our first visit in Maryland, and then we can work from anywhere. Dr. Thompson is liscensed in Maryland and Delaware.

Do I qualify for the Comprehensive Well Program?This program is for anyone looking to optimize their heath. The only time somebody is not qualified is if their health is too far-gone or their condition requires urgent medical attention. If a client is not motivated, engaged and willing to take the steps necessary to get healthy, they would not be a good candidate.

How much should i budget for functional lab testing costs?By joining our comprehensive program, you have access to direct pricing on lab test kits, which ensure you pay the lowest price possible. On average, you should budget between $500-$800 for functional lab. In-depth genetic testing may increase this fee to $1500.

Are the Comprehensive Well Program and lab testing covered by insurance?Our programs and functional lab testing are typically not covered by insurance.

Can I have an initial intake appointment with Dr. Thompson before I commit to the Comprehensive Well Program?Yes, your first appointment is one of your five appointments with Dr. Thompson. If you choose to persue this plan, we apply your payment of $699 to the total cost of the program. The time for the intial visit is not just your in-person or Zoom visit, it includes a complete review of your comprehensvie intake as well as all old records you share and requires a considerable amount of expertise and attention.

Can my appointments be done over the phone or via Zoom?Yes. We can do your appointment on the phone or video conference so we can more be engaged and help you along the process.

How does the lab testing work?The lab testing is typically done at home. In some instances you might have to get blood work done. We will direct you to the lab that coordinates that. Many of the tests have shipping included in the cost of the kits. If not, you will be responsible for the shipping. You will get instructions in more detail on how to do the test kits and the kits come with clear instructions as well. Payment is made directly to the lab to ensure you have the lowest price possible. Maryland Integrative Health does not profit from any testing performed.
